Since retiring, the 13x NBA All-Star has acquired ownership stakes in the Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake, a football team. Wade plays an active role in supporting each of them. The blockbuster trades of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert came during his tenure.

His desire to acquire an ownership stake with a new franchise has been the talk of the town. In a recent interview, he finally confirmed the news about his hometown team.

The Miami Heat legend finally announced that he is acquiring a stake in his hometown’s WNBA team. Windy City fans, and the media, were expecting the move for the last few months. And pending approval, the Chicago Sky are likely looking at new ownership next season.

Soon after the announcement, ESPN released details of an interview where Wade touched upon the move.

During the interview, Wade emphasized that joining the WNBA in its early stages is an opportunity worth taking. He wants to be a part of the growth that will be undertaken by the league in the coming years.

“Instead of tweeting out and saying ‘go support the W,’ I wanted to take it to that next level,” said Dwyane Wade.

“[She] was a fan of the Chicago Sky before I became a fan of the Chicago Sky,” Wade confessed.

Only a few hours after the official announcement, Wade took to his Instagram to share the news on his story. He captioned it “Mama this one is for you @jolindaw”. A touching?tribute to the person who opened his eyes to the Sky.

Wade made the news public by tweeting to his 9.5 Million followers. Attaching a video to the tweet, Wade described being on this side of history as ?an incredible feeling.?

The team attained an $85 million valuation after Laura Ricketts acquired a 10% stake. The owner of the baseball team Chicago Cubs was joined by a few other investors. Wade has not yet revealed how much stake he has acquired with the team, or, for what amount. Whatever it may be, the Sky?s valuation will likely increase once the three-time champion’s deal comes through.

Dwyane becomes one of the few NBA players, including Magic Johnson, to make an investment in the WNBA since its inception 27 years ago. Rumors sparked regarding his interest in the team after Wade was spotted attending a practice session and posing with the players.

D-Wade is set to be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame next month. He created a slight buzz after not choosing his best friend to introduce him during the ceremony.

He already has a net worth of $175 million! Following his induction and upcoming investment, Dwyane Wade’s brand is likely to keep rising in value.
