There are only a few as outspoken and unfiltered as Charles Barkley. With his trademark  he has once again sparked a debate on this generation allegedly being too soft. The Philly icon is known for his sense of humor, candidness and honest opinions. This, at times, rubs people in the wrong way.

In a recent episode of the Stephen A. Smith show, Barkley gave out a brief assessment of his approach to his role as a sports analyst. “I am going to do my job. I ain’t worried about what these fools think of me,” he declared. “I’ve never gotten on tv and said anything personal about a guy. If I’m asked a question, I’m going to be honest. Man, this generation, man, they are so sensitive.” With these words, Barkley did not hesitate to express his frustration with this generational culture that inhibits honest dialogue and critique.

Barkley further emphasized that he did not get where he was at present, just with hot takes. “I got here being very good at my job,” he said, adding that being honest is one of the most important aspects of his job.

It is not as if Barkley always gets away with his criticism of players. The NBA player turned analyst often finds himself entangled in a controversy with the players. From Kevin Durant to LeBron James, Barkley has quite some names in his book.

He recently left the NBA community divided with his remarks on KD. “No disrespect to Kevin but Kevin’s a follower, not a leaderHe’s proven that on all of his stops,” Barkley stated. While some from the community came out in Durant’s support, analysts like Chris Broussard validated Barkley’s claims by quoting KD from one of his past interviews.

Barkley, nevertheless, seems to be unaffected by any lash back faced by him because of his unfiltered opinion and criticism. He believes what he says has nothing to do with players as individuals but just them being players. And even as a harsh critic, Barkley also does not shy away from praising players where the credit is due. This was witnessed in the recent episode of the Stephen A. Smith Show itself. Barkley, despite his past controversy with LeBron, said “I think Michael Jordan is a greater player but I think LeBron’s story is arguably the greatest story in sports…”
