Dwelling on the not-so-recent news, Shaq recently took to social media to share how the WBC has been reportedly treating one of its best boxers unfairly.

Shaquille O’Neal took to Instagram to share the video recently with his 31.6 million followers. While the news may be outdated, Shaq probably shared it to point out the alleged hypocrisy that exists in the world of boxing.

A reel was recently uploaded by ‘ipcombat’, an Instagram handle with over 12900 followers. It featured the host touching on the topic of how the World Boxing Council (WBC) is supposedly showing unfair treatment to 24-year-old Devin Haney. The video pointed out that Haney had been given one day to decide whether he wanted to face his rival, Shakur Stevenson, or move up a weight division to fight another boxer.

If Haney decides not to pursue either one of the two, he will be “stripped of his WBC Title”. The choice had been presented in light of the news that Stevenson’s managers requested the WBC to mandate the duo’s fight.

According to the ipcombat host, the offer is not a bad one. The only disadvantage it holds is that it is a rare occurrence. An offer like that is not something that another WBC Boxer has reportedly seen.

The host used the example of Jermall Charlo, a 33-year-old fighter who has been holding the middleweight title since 2019. Despite not having been in a fight for more than a year, his titles remain intact. No mandatory challenger has been placed on him as well. A similar situation is with Canelo Alvarez, who is allowed to fight opponents from lower weight categories without it having an effect on his titles.

The reel was posted a week ago. Since then, Stevenson has spoken up and withdrawn himself from the mandatory fight. According to a series of tweets, he placed his reasoning on financial demands, stating that he wouldn’t accept the 25/75 revenue split being offered by Haney’s team.

There is no way of knowing what impact the former Los Angeles Lakers player’s story would have had on its followers. Nonetheless, Shaq continued his habit of supporting fellow athletes from the world over.
