Bets are already coming in as ‘The Problem Child’ and ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ gear up to enter a face-off. The world is set to witness Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson in a live-streamed match on Netflix on July 20. While some believe that age might be a differentiating factor in the fight, some have gone all in on Tyson. Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas is among the latter ones.
Appearing on an episode of his podcast, the ex-Washington Wizards guard expressed a strong belief that Jake stands next to no chance against Iron Mike. “He (Mike) is a professional fighter with probably the most power we’ve seen, right in boxing itself. Just an accidental right hook or something, you dead. You’re not built for the type of hits. So if you even last, we already know it’s scripted,” Arenas stated.
Gil further compared both players’ forms. He mentioned that he has seen how Mike punches with his trainer and he has also seen how Jake punches. “Half your knockouts, your eyes is closed. You just throwing a haymaker. That sh*t ain’t working on Mike Tyson,” he said. However, these opinions and claims did not come out of thin air from the ex-Wizards star. He backed his reasoning with past instances mentioned earlier in the podcast.

“You remember when Tyson and Holyfield was about to fight?…There was a viral video of what Tyson looked like…Holy feels like, yeah, I’m out,” Arenas said. He further recollected the exhibition fight between Roy Jones and Mike Tyson. Gil stated that Roy had initially backed out until the terms that Mike would not knock him out came into place. He also hinted at the possibility of something similar in the upcoming faceoff on July 20. But is Gilbert Arenas’ claim right?
A comparison between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul
Jake Paul has an advantage in terms of his height as compared to Iron Mike. While Jake is 6’1″ tall with a 76-inch reach, Tyson stands at 5’10” height with a 71-inch reach. However, Paul weighs lighter than Mike. It is also worth mentioning that this is the first bout that Jake will be contesting in the heavyweight category, while Mike has years of experience in this category.

Even the stats speak better for Tyson. In his total 58 career fights, Tyson has 50 wins to his name and just 4 losses. Two of his fights ended with no contest. The most interesting part of these stats is that of the 50 wins, 44 wins for Tyson came through a knockout.
On the other hand, Jake Paul was an internet celebrity before entering the field of boxing so he has only 10 career fights so far. However, he has won 9 out of 10 fights and only lost one, so he has a high winning percentage. Of the 9 wins, 6 came for Paul by a knockout. Another factor to consider is the age difference.
