This year will be a special one for sneakerheads. Just moments before Michael Jordan‘s birthday, anticipation peaked as his multi-billion-dollar partnership with Nike unveiled plans for the first-ever Jordan ‘World of Flight’ store in the United States. The ‘World of Flight’ was introduced in 2022 as “a destination to celebrate the legacy and future of Basketball culture“. This marks the fourth such store opened by the brand worldwide.

As per NBC, the venue for this historic store is set to be Walnut Street in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. Though much hasn’t been much revealed about the opening date of the flagship store, the announcement is a fitting way to to mark the Chicago Bulls legend’s special day, as he turns 61 today.

Notably, the Jordan brand chose a historic century-old building for its location. The two-story building was built in 1921. Nike called the store a “destination to celebrate the legacy and future of basketball culture.” Spanning 7,000 square feet, the design concept of the store draws inspiration from the intersection of Philadelphia Historical Architecture and the Jordan Brand, creating a unique and immersive space, much like its predecessors did.

The Jordan ‘World of Flight’ has marked its presence in three iconic locations, Italy, Japan, and Dubai. The journey began in December 2022 with the inaugural store in Italy. Following the success of the debut, Jordan World of Flight swiftly extended its reach across the globe with the launch of Jordan World of Flight Shibuya Tokyo, in March 2023. It became Japan’s first-ever Jordan-only store.

Furthermore, the Shibuya store is the largest to date with its sprawling 9,200-square-foot space, offering a haven for sneaker aficionados. At the heart of the Shibuya store lies a showcase of best-in-class Jordan Brand products and so much more. As the brand continues to soar, the U.S. ‘World of Flight’ store will become another marker of the success of Michael Jordan’s partnership with Nike.
