A lot has been said about the 1980s being the toughest and the most physical era in NBA history. Despite everything, there was no stopping the iconic Showtime Lakers. With the help of legends like Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the Los Angeles Lakers established themselves as NBA royalty. It was only fair when a billion-dollar organization announced a documentary on the legendary team. A former Lakers forward, who won 3 championships with the franchise, asked a rather interesting question to the fans while lauding the docu-series.

In a span of 9 years starting from 1980, the Lakers made 7 trips to the Finals, winning 5 times. This gave rise to more success as the Lakers have now eventually tied the Boston Celtics for the most championships in league history.

Rick Fox is one of the very few to have featured for both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. He joined the Lakers in the year 1997 and won three championships along with Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. Like everyone else, he also hopped on the craze to witness the Showtime era through HBO Max’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, who is worth a massive $500 million, was spotted on social media heaping praise on the series. She wrote, I’m enjoying this season of Winning Time on HBO reliving the Lakers Showtime era.Fox agreed with the 61-year-old and wrote, Agreed @JeanieBuss I’m also looking forward to the @PhilJackson11 @SHAQ and @kobebryant years! What Say You @Lakers Nation.

Rick Fox pointed towards the fact that the Kobe-Shaq era, which Fox was also a part of, deserves a cinematic portrayal of its own. The Lakers won three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers get one more documentary in the future involving the Black Mamba and the Big Diesel. One might think that winning three titles together would lead Kobe and Shaq to have a lifelong friendship. While they didn’t have a great relationship once Shaq left, they eventually patched up and were great friends till Bryant’s passing in 2020.

Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant had an interesting conversation with each other a few years back. Shaq said, “I tore my house up after you won your 5th ring!” To which Kobe responded, “I knew you were going to get on because of the energy. You’re going to Miami, D-Wade, and everything that was there. So I knew I had to get at least two or three. I wanted you to get that because I needed that.”

Shaquille O’Neal made it clear that the fact Kobe has got more rings than him didn’t sit well with him at all. However, Shaq will always have more Finals MVPs than his former teammate.
