For most people, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever. He is at the top of most of the all-time lists. Jordan averaged 28 points as a rookie. He was a star as soon as he got into the league. When we look at his college career, people often think about his iconic shot against Georgetown.

But as 66-year-old Dan Patrick looked at Jordan’s college career as a whole, he did not appreciate ESPN putting him in their greatest college basketball players in the last 50 years list.

Dan mentioned that Jordan was not even the best player on his team at UNC. It was James Worthy. Miller agreed to this. He said that Worthy had a better career in college. But since Jordan is close to Worthy when compared to the greatest UNC player, Jordan should automatically be in the top 5 or 10 players in college basketball history. Dan Patrick disagreed with this.

This then made Miller ask Dan what college career he would rather have. Is it Michael Jordan’s or Tyler Hansbrough’s? To everyone’s surprise, Dan picked Tyler Hansbrough, and there is a valid reason behind it.

Was Tyler Hansbrough better than MJ in college?

To someone who is not keeping in touch with college basketball, the name Tyler Hansbrough would be new. But Tyler Hansbrough is the leading scorer in ACC history. He is ahead of JJ Reddick by 3 points and has a total of 2872. Both Jordan and Hansbrough played for UNC, and both have won a championship with UNC.

So the only thing to check, rather than the counting stats, is their averages. And this is where most people would be shocked. Tyler Hansbrough averaged 20 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in his first three seasons at UNC. Jordan, in his one season, averaged 17.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.
