It’s not every day that you hear athletes thrash their jerseys. Recently, 7x NBA champion Robert Horry, while discussing his experience playing in Chicago brought up the Houston Rockets uniform. The NBA veteran said that the 1996 Rockets uniform was horrible and ended up giving him a rash.
Horry stated how he had to come up with solutions to get past the itch so he could focus on the game. Claiming to be the best player in the world at the time, the 53-year-old said that despite facing the Chicago Bulls in their prime, he was unstoppable. However, the jersey was the thing that bothered him the most.

The team jerseys hold sentimental value, with throwback jerseys creating the most amount of excitement among the fans. However, Horry wasn’t pleased with what the Rockets had prepared back in 1996. He said those “ugly a** Rockets uniforms” gave him rashes which he had to work through during games. Horry came up with the idea of wearing a tank top underneath to protect himself from the itch. Although it came as a shock for Iman Shumpert that the NBA veteran was thrashing the jersey because he liked the blue and white pinstripes, the conversation quickly shifted to Horry’s “wife-beater” idea.
Shumpert said, “I thought that was fire”, but Horry remained adamant that those uniforms were “scratchy”. He said, “They gave me a rash. I had to wear a tank top under it because it was like…the material was so messed up”. While Horry was detailing his experience with the poor-quality jersey, all Shumpert picked up was that he was wearing a tank top underneath. The 33-year-old said, “Don’t tell me you wore a wife beater under your uniform”. “I had to man”, Horry replied.

While Shumpert was giving an alternative that Horry could’ve tried instead, Horry reminded him that it was back in the day when the 2016 NBA champion must’ve been in high school. Well, he was 6 years old at the time. Horry also recalled facing the Bulls during his time with the Rockets.

He said while he was there, the Bulls beat them twice, and that too, with the full force of the team. He said, “The last time they beat us, they had the whole crew, everybody.” Despite a bad experience because of the uniform, Horry’s first of 7 championships was with the Rockets, so he surely has some great memories with the team as well.
