2001 NBA MVP Allen Iverson is back with the Iverson Classic All-American Game. The Philadelphia 76ers legend is known for his cultural impact on the league. This high school basketball all-star game is just an extension of that legacy. The NBA also stands by the impact Iverson is making for aspiring athletes. 7 years after the game’s inception, it continues its partnership with the league. 

The official X page of Allen Iverson Roundball Classic declared, “We are proud to announce that for the 7th year, Iverson Classic is NBA Certified. As one of the only NBA Certified events in the world, we are excited to welcome NBA leadership, scouts and personnel to both Iverson Classic All-American Game and the 24K Showcase.”

The 11x NBA All-Star also took to his Instagram to share the good news with his fans. The post featured the official logos of the NBA and the Iverson Classic All-American Game showcasing their partnership and was captioned, “We Certified.” The first-ever Iverson Classic game was held in Virginia. And for the 7th year, it is back to its origins.

It was back in 2017 when the High School event was founded by masterminds Iverson, Bobby Bates, and Jai Manselle. The concept and the contribution it made to the league are so significant, that it quickly gained NBA certification in 2018. That means NBA scouts, personnel directors, and celebrity coaches will be able to attend the event in their official roles to evaluate and recruit the numerous high school players demonstrating their skills.

This is a platform that provides many opportunities for young talents to learn, grow and get spotted. Along with the two-team competition, this event will also comprise a three-point shooting contest, dunk contest, and more. In the last few years, this basketball event has become one of the premier competitions in the country. Many athletes who’ve taken part in it have gone on to have successful careers in college basketball and professional leagues.

Some of the shining examples are DJ Wagner, AJ Johnson, and Justin Edwards. Another player Amarr Knox was awarded a full scholarship by Memphis University after his power display impressed Penny Hardaway.
