The Metaverse war might finally be upon us. Weeks earlier, Elon Musk laid down the fight, and with Mark Zuckerberg reportedly interested, it now seems the first shot has been fired. For Shaquille O’Neal, a lifelong fan of wrestling and MMA, it serves as a chance to pick his side. An avid social media user and combat sports fan, O’Neal gave the thumbs up to Elon taking over Twitter. However, hours after Zuckerberg’s new invention went active, Shaq signed up for it. And, it seems like he’s brought his family along too.
With an active user base of 2 billion, Instagram is light years ahead of Twitter. If a small majority of that number joins Threads, the days of Twitter might quickly be over. In its first 7 hours, Threads has seen over 10 million downloads.

Soon after the new app, Threads released, O’Neal and his family joined the ranks of users. While Diesel was reportedly on Elon’s side during his Twitter purchase, it seems like he has switched sides. Announcing his arrival, Shaq wrote, “THE DIESEL IS HERE.”
Soon after, his millionaire son, Myles, joined the party as well. While the millionaire supermodel seemed to be baffled by the new territory and asked, “What is this,” he also quickly chose sides in the rumored match. Earlier in the month, Elon Musk laid down a challenge for Mark Zuckerberg for a cage match.

While Zuckerberg seemed open to the idea, the realistic possibility was low. However, if such a match does end up happening, Myles is choosing the jiu-jitsu-trained Zuckerberg. “After the release of this app, I officially am taking Zuck in the fight. He’s a superior man.”

He used this caption for a photoshopped image of the two tech titans locked in battle. While the no-doubt historical match would be legendary, it seems like an impossibility. What might be a genuine possibility is a fight between the two men’s products- Twitter vs Threads.

The meta match by the numbers
Twitter currently has over 250 million active users. In the years since its inception, no company offering a similar service has come close. While such companies saw a noticeable uptick in the number of users post-Elon takeover, Twitter still dwarfs its competition. Until now.
But, an alternative by Instagram might prove to be Twitter’s match. Over the years, Instagram has incorporated ideas from other social media apps quite successfully. Whether it be stories from Snapchat or reels from TikTok, Mark Zuckerberg’s brainchild keeps innovating.
