TNT Sports invited some representatives of DailyMail.com to take a tour of its Atlanta studios and catch a special behind-the-scenes glimpse of the NBA’s fan-favorite show Inside The NBA. This gesture is part of the effort to draw in more NBA fans from Britain and Ireland, hence increasing the viewership from the UK and Ireland.

Veteran players and hosts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are joining in on the effort to draw in more supporters from across the pond. As the tour commenced, Shaq and co-host Kenny Smith arrived at the scene. As they settle down for their usual routine, Shaq gets ready to take a baseline shot just before they go on air. This is when Barkley calls out a bet, and we get to learn that Shaq owes Barkley a lot more than $100.

Shaq hasn’t paid up for many of the bets he lost to Kenny

Barkley bets $100 that Shaq will miss the shot. Well, turns out Shaq still has it in him and he makes a clean 15-footer shot. When the time comes to pay up, Kenny says, “Shaq owes me more than that.” When asked if he will pay Shaq the due money, he continues, “You know how many bets that he hasn’t paid? And how many shots that I probably hit over the years that he’s never paid me?

Of course, this is all in jest, and the amount doesn’t even matter even if Shaq pays up or not. In fact, brandishing a $400 million fortune, Shaq can, by all means, pay all the money he owes to Kenny and more, but this just goes to show the brotherly relationship they share and gives us a glimpse of the banter, playful debates and entertaining topics that make the show what it is today.

TNT’s effort to promote the sport in Britain and Ireland

This is exactly what the tour wanted to highlight, to draw in more fans and viewership. Currently, TNT Sports is televising nine NBA games every week in the UK and Ireland, after acquiring regional media rights. The network is using Inside The NBA to introduce traditional American sports to British and Irish audiences, hence widening the fanbase.

The network is also set to broadcast the first two rounds of the playoffs in the UK and Ireland once it kicks off. Despite some challenges about differences in time zones, and appealing to the younger audience, they are trying to work around the issues and come up with solutions to bring the sport to newer heights.
