During the last season, Luka Doncic had the best of times in Dallas from an individual standpoint. But from the team’s perspective, it was a season to forget. Despite pairing superstar Kyrie Irving with Doncic, the Mavs went home without even seeing the play-in tournament. Nonetheless, all this could be a story of the past, as Irving re-signed a three-year $126 million deal with Dallas. Unlike in the past season, Doncic and Irving will now have more time to bond together and perform for the Mavs. But will Doncic have as long a stay in Dallas as Irving?

In the 2021 off season, Luka Doncic had signed a five-year $207 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. However, a famed analyst now opines that Doncic will bid farewell to Irving, Mark Cuban and others if things go south for the Mavs next season too.

In the light of the ongoing off season and free agency, Trail Blazers veteran Damian Lillard requested a trade from the franchise. In a recent episode of ESPN’s?FirstTake,?a bunch of analysts flash forwarded to the future and examined if any other key player will request a trade from their respective teams.

Soon, Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid, two current superstars who have long been eyeing a ring occupied the center of the discussion.

ESPN’s Stephen Smith was the first to comment on the superstars and it was about Doncic that he spoke, “If the Dallas Mavericks struggle next season, Luka Doncic will ask out. This is not inside information, just my opinion,”?said Stephen A. Smith.

“The West has gotten stronger. You look at Dallas to miss out on Jalen Brunson and to bring Kyrie up in there. If you and Kyrie are together and for some reason that doesn’t work, I think he will ask out. And the likelihood of him asking out is significantly higher than Embiid asking out of Philly.”

Meanwhile, co-host Jay Williams opined that Joel Embiid will be the first to call it quits with his team.

According to JWill, Embiid has had a longer stint with the 76ers than Doncic has had with the Mavs. Therefore, he said Embiid “should” be the first one to ask out for a trade and not Doncic. Stephen A. Smith challenged JWill’s claim.

As Smith puts it, Doncic has had deeper playoff runs in the league, including a WCF appearance, despite not having as long a stint as Embiid. Embiid, on the other hand, was a game away from appearing in the last season’s ECF, and still fell short against Boston in front of a Philly crowd.

It indeed was a not-so-subtle remark, implying that the four-time All-Star has all the right to ask the Mavs for a trade if things go south.

Let us hope Doncic and Irving work some magic for the Texan side. If not, Doncic might not be in the frame of mind to withstand another underwhelming run.
