The Boston Celtics were the first to shock the hoops community with an unexpected trade in the NBA offseason. The trade not only surprised fans but also the Celtics point guard Marcus Smart. The franchise front office was quick to address press on the move. But the 29-year-old star guard couldn’t keep quiet on the unforeseen Ja Morant bombshell.

The Celtics kicked off the trading spree in the offseason with a shocking Marcus Smart trade to the Memphis Grizzlies. Smart had already cemented a crucial role in the Boston roster after a 9-season-long journey with the franchise. He held a spot in the star trio of the team alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown during their deep playoff performance in the last two seasons.

In the recent episode of Garden Report, Smart narrated the moment when he learned about the trade. Importantly, the interview revealed that Smart wasn’t aware of the trade and he received the news in the midnight via his agent.

He said, “It was definitely shocking to find out that way, especially because the week before, I was already told we were good.”

Moreover, he expressed his disappointment that management hesitated to inform him prior to the trade, reported Clnsmedia.com. “I understand it’s a business. For me, it’s just the courtesy.”
