Draymond Green made headlines a few days ago after he opted out of his $27.6 million contract with the Golden State Warriors. The four-time NBA champion claimed he was deserving of a $100 million contract and looks like the 6?8 forward finally got what he wanted. However, his $100 million salary might only end up costing his team around half a billion in luxury tax.
The Golden State Warriors have been at the top of the list in paying luxury taxes after throwing huge contracts at their players. And Draymond Green?s latest blockbuster deal will only make it harder for Stephen Curry?s Warriors in the future.

The luxury taxes of the NBA are designed in such a way that it tends to reward teams for staying under the spending limit and heavily punish those teams for crossing it. And the Warriors have been atop the list in paying luxury taxes.

Draymond Green?s contract will only increase the luxury tax for the team. According to CBS Sports in May, the Golden State Warriors were expected to pay $276 million in luxury taxes as a repeat offender for an estimated $492 million in overall salary payment. With Green?s renegotiated contract, that luxury tax will be reaching the half-a-billion mark. With Curry, Klay, Green, Chris Paul, and Andrew Wiggins earning big money next year, the Warriors owners will be wary of the amount being spent.
One good thing that came out of this whole ordeal was that the Golden State Warriors were able to keep their core of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry together while adding a few notable pieces to the team.

The NBA community did not approve of this contract
The Golden State Warriors traded away Jordan Poole for Chris Paul in the hopes of becoming an instant contender once again. While some fans were happy with this, the majority weren?t.
But with the contract given to Draymond Green, rarely has anyone been happy with what the team is paying him, given his contributions on the floor. Agreed that Green is the team?s defensive leader on the floor.
