With the Boston Celtics starting the offseason with a massive trade for a former All-Star, the NBA world was left stunned by who they gave up in the deal. As per the earlier reports, the 2023 Sixth MOTY Malcolm Brogdon was involved in a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Washington Wizards before the injury reports broke the trade. However, Boston included Memphis Grizzlies in the trade in place of the Clippers. The Celtics, desperate for an attacking big man, traded for Latvian star Kristaps Porzingis from the Wizards.
However, they let go of one of their most loyal players, who wanted to end his career with the 17x NBA champions, as per reports. After missing a chance at the NBA Finals, the Celtics had to make changes to the roster, and the price they had to pay was 29-year-old Marcus Smart.

With Smart gone from the Boston Celtics, the trio of Tatum-Brown-Smart is broken now. Porzingis opted into his $36 million contract before getting traded to Boston. The 2022 DPOY was reportedly “completely shocked” by the trade. One of the leaders of the team, Smart will surely be missed in Boston.
