Expressing Concerns Over Massive Supreme Court Ruling, Charles Barkley Makes Huge Change To His Will

The world witnessed a historic judgment from the Supreme Court yesterday. A verdict was announced on affirmative action and mixed reactions have followed. While some people backed the ruling, others deemed it a step back from progress. In the educational system, this verdict is going to have a massive impact. Among those who are not backing the decision is the NBA legend Charles Barkley. However, Barkley is not simply concerned with taking down positive discrimination, he already has a plan.

Barkley has always been a concerned citizen and a superstar who looks out for others. The Round Mound of Rebound expressed that this judgment is frightening and that he will take something out of his will to ensure that his alma mater doesn’t suffer.

Charles Barkley changes his will after affirmative action ruling

The heavily reported judgment was a point of conversation across the globe. Sir Charles has always been a politically active citizen. So it was obvious that he would have some concerns about the judgment that will impact his community. Living up to his character, he admitted that this is like a “shot across the bow.” But he didn’t stop there. The people’s man said that he has plans to ensure that the objective of affirmative action remains constant, at least for his alma mater.

Barkley is from Leeds, Alabama and he attended Auburn University. While the 60-year-old was distraught by the judgment, he said that he will alter his will to make sure that Black students don’t suffer from the judgment.

Barkley said, “In my will, I am leaving Auburn $5 million. I’m going to change it to be just for scholarships for Black students. That’s just my way of trying to make sure Auburn stays diverse.” Chuck said that initially he had the $5 million set aside for poor students but the hearing has prompted him to change the target for his donation.

“I’m gonna change my will and make it exclusive for Black students—all $5 million,” Chuck added.

US leaders also reacted to the ruling

This historic judgment compelled several leaders of the country to react to it as well.

President Joe Biden said that this ruling is a step backward which is not good for society. He also added that the new ruling will not be “the last word,” on the topic. Ex-President Barack Obama said that despite not being perfect, affirmative action “allowed generations of students like Michelle and me,” to achieve their dreams in this world.

With such a monumental change to the educational infrastructure, it’s heartwarming to see NBA legends do good for their communities. Time will tell if other players plan to follow suit and take Barkley’s lead.
