Kobe Bryant’s last contract with the global sportswear brand Nike came to an end in April 2021. Vanessa failed to reach an agreement with the company to carry forward the legacy. Unlike Michael Jordan’s lifetime deal with the brand, Kobe Bryant’s family couldn’t crack a similar deal.

However, after Vanessa’s numerous appeals on social media, the sports brand could settle the issue.

According to NiceKicks.com, Nike is planning to relaunch the Kobe brand on August 24. “We set the stage to relaunch the Kobe brand in advance of Kobe Day,” Nike CEO John Donahoe said.

In between these two years, Bryant’s wife and Nike were caught up in a crossfire. She raised her concern when Nike launched the Gigi MAMBACITA shoe without her permission and also highlighted fans’ displeasure of not getting their hands on Kobe sneakers after the contract expiration.

However, the problem seemed to have settled down between both parties, as Vanessa recently gifted the latest version of Gigi MAMBACITA shoes to various celebrities. Moreover, Kobe brand’s relaunch on Kobe Day acts as a cherry on the cake.

What’s the significance of Kobe Day?

After the death of the basketball legend in 2020, Los Angeles city and Orange county observed August 24 as Kobe Day. Even though the Lakers legend and his daughter Gigi lost their lives on January 26, the Orange County Board of Supervisors picked 24th of August to honor the legend’s basketball prowess.
