The Damian Lillard saga ended as abruptly as it began. While Dame remains adamant about staying in Portland, teams and fans enjoyed their annual rumor mill. Fans can’t help but wonder if this is the year that Dame finally leaves the Trailblazers. And each year, the answer remains the same. While this season seemed like the inevitable would finally happen, it looks like the move isn’t happening this summer either. After a whirlwind Miami Heat trade saga, an unexpected avenue might just have opened for Dame Dolla.
NBA Insider Bobby Marks came in with the wild idea.

Analyst Bob Marks posed the question, “What happens in a week from now if Portland doesn’t upgrade their roster?”After all, this has been the trend. Rumors surround Dame before inevitably dying down as Portland promises to surround the point guard with enough talent to compete. And sure enough, each season, they fail to do so. With that in mind, which team might be best equipped to maximize Lillard’s playstyle and leverage it into winning basketball?
A team known for drafting generational centers and foreign stars recently combined its two ingredients in the form of French prospect, Victor Wembanyama. While some may not agree with his “greatest prospect ever” billing, there is little doubt about the potential the 7’5” big possesses.
The San Antonio Spurs have been a rollercoaster the last few years. After 20 seasons of consistent greatness, the Texas team missed the last 5 playoffs. Fortunately for them, there was light at the end of the tunnel.
After years of mediocrity, the Spurs finally have a solid core and a generational prospect. What they need is a leading hand. And who better to lead your time than a fired-up point guard? After initial reports of a Chris Paul deal fell through, NBA Insider Bobby Marks laid out the foundations for a potential Damian Lillard move.
“If Damian Lillard…Asks out, would San Antonio dip their toes in the deep end and make a run at Damian Lillard?” He explained how easy the trade would be for the Spurs who have 12 draft picks to their name.
While San Antonio would certainly make for an intriguing option, the latest from the Trailblazers seems to indicate that no moves for Damian Lillard are going to be made.
Yet another year of promises for Damian Lillard and Rip City
Damian Lillard sat down with his agent and Portland Trailblazers management to decide his future. While most expected a trade involving Dame in the days after the meet, the news coming out was the opposite. After a summer of flirtations between Portland’s point guard and Miami, the rumors were publicly shut down.

The official word from GM Joe Cronin was, ?I met with Dame and Aaron Goodwin this afternoon. We had a great dialogue. We remain committed to building a winner around Dame.??So, it seems like a trade for the rapper/baller is still a ways away.
However, if the move ever becomes available, a San Antonio union does seem promising. Marks closed his statement out by saying, “This is the team, if Damian Lillard ever became available, that I’m putting as my wild card.”?
