Damian Lillard‘s request for a trade comes weeks after Trail Blazers select point guard, Scoot Henderson as the third overall pick in drafts. During his post-season exit interviews, Lillard explicitly states he didn’t want to play with teenagers. While Lillard expects Portland exchanges its first-round pick for an experienced star, Portland is reportedly turning down all offers.
With Dame’s departure, the Trailblazers find themselves back at square one. It’s the same as when they initially drafted Lillard in 2012. But this time, it’s Henderson.

Dame is now synonymous with the Portland franchise because of his long-standing association with them in 2012. But now their association seems to reach its end.
The Miami Heat along with 3 possible suitors, are determined to try hard to trade for Damian Lillard. Dame after being loyal to the franchise throughout his career, has finally told the Portland Trail Blazers that he wants to be traded, specifically to Miami. Reportedly Lillard wants to go to Miami because he loves the city, respects Jimmy Butler, and is friends with the center Bam Adebayo. Plus, Miami is willing to offer a package centered around Tyler Herro; it possibly comes with Duncan Robinson and picks.
In his post-season interview, the 32-year-old star explicitly said, “I don’t have much of an appetite for building with guys 2 and 3 years away and not really go after it.”

Why Damian Lillard asked for a trade?
Lillard’s 11 seasons in Portland saw him average 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists per game. The Blazers consistently reached the playoffs from 2014 to 2021, with their peak being a notable appearance in the 2019 Western Conference finals.
Dame’s successful moments from Portland were during the 2018-19 season making the conference Finals. Golden State Warriors swept them and ended their playoff run.

Lillard’s absence in the last 10 games of this season because of a calf strain makes it debatable whether his absence can be blamed for Portland’s desire to tank its way into a stronger lottery position.
However, after the 2022-23 season, Lillard expresses his desire to play with his good friend Bam Adebayo in Miami on a podcast. The Miami Heat are fresh from the NBA Finals, so it makes sense for them to acquire Damian Lillard.
