Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers’ point guard, has been on a phenomenal run. He has bagged a contract extension of $260 million, all thanks to his hard work and efforts. During his appearance at Podcast P hosted by Paul George, he was asked about his run in the NBA, his inspirations, and his opinion about his team’s shooting guard, Bennedict Mathurin.

A shooting guard or a shooting star?

Bennedict Richard Felder Mathurin is a Canadian basketball player who always dreamt of being in the NBA. When the Indiana Pacers drafted him, he was on cloud nine and was living his dream. Mathurin proved the Pacers made the right choice, and was also voted the NBA Rising Star 2023.

Surpassing Chris Duarte for most 3-pointers as a rookie, Mathurin recorded 29 points and a career-high 9 rebounds; the highest in the Pacers’ franchise history.

On Podcast P, Tyrese Haliburton was asked to comment on Mathurin, his teammate. Showering accolades on him, he said, “What makes Ben so special is his confidence. To say he is confident is like the biggest undersell I have heard in my life” and also added, “He can be hard-headed sometimes, but I love that about him.”

Haliburton also revealed the famous quote Mathurin started: “LeBron gonna have to show me”.

Confidence or overconfidence?

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the reporter questioned Mathurin about facing LeBron James on the court. Mathurin being his witty self says LeBron will have to prove himself against him.

The controversial statement spread like wildfire around the NBA community, provoking admiration and criticism!

Assessing the young player’s exceptional talent, he clearly possesses the ability to back his claims. With an abundance of confidence, it appears highly probable that he possesses the caliber to ascend to the ranks of the basketball greats.
