Kyrie Irving recently shared a video of late pop-star Prince to his Instagram handle. In the video Prince states that “I really searched deep within to find out the answer to whether fame was most important to me or my spiritual well-being and I chose the latter. I pretty much wanted to be dependent upon God.”

But it is exactly these kinds of antics that have made him one of the most polarizing NBA players. He sat out most of the 2020-21 season due to his refusal to get the Covid-19 vaccine. Nike even dropped Kyrie Irving for his extreme beliefs in 2022.

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving on the trade deadline. The front office believed that he would provide the necessary push that will propel them into the NBA playoffs. But the Mavs didn’t even finish in the play-in spots.

This setback proved fortunate for the Mavs, as they kept hold of the 2023 draft pick. The Mavs drafted Derrick Lively II with the 12th pick. Derrick is a rim protecting big-man who can seamlessly fit into the Mavs rotation, as it was a position the Mavs front office was actively searching for.
