The first day of the 2023 NBA Summer League caught some mixed feelings among the viewers. Almost 19,000 ecstatic supporters packed the Thomas & Mack Center for Victor Wembanyama’s debut NBA Summer League game with the San Antonio Spurs. The highly anticipated debut game generated a lot of interest, with tickets selling out earlier in the week. Tickets to the game were sold out before the game; truly a rare occurrence in the history of the Summer League. The only other time this happened was during Zion Williamson’s debut in 2019. However, after the game, fans were disappointed upon seeing Wembanyama’s debut performance. Some fans even called him “A generational burst” out of disappointment.

While all eyes were on the 19-year-old French prodigy, The Houston Rockets’ young core showed some exceptional skills during the clutch win against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Jabari Smith Jr. credits teammates’ QB skills for the clutch shot

Jabari Smith Jr., the son of former NBA player Jabari Smith, had an outstanding performance for the Houston Rockets. He finished with 33 points and a game-winning three-pointer with less than a second remaining. He received the ball and immediately sunk the shot from the 3pt line to give his team a one-point victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. It was a big opportunity for Smith to demonstrate his NBA potential. In the Rockets’ first Summer League game, the 20-year-old scored 29 points in the second half to lead them to a victory over the Trail Blazers.

However, Smith believed that he wouldn’t have been able to achieve the clutch win without the quarterback skills of his teammate, who brought out his inner Tom Brady to help him.

When the reporter asked to take him through the last shot, Smith said, “Coach drew up the play. I had the QB take the ball out, and I made the shot.” While telling it in a brief, he gave the center stage to the 22-year-old Tari Eason for his extraordinary passing. Eason stated, “Coach drew it up. He said he needed my QB skills. You know I used to play football, back in the day. I lined it up Jabari knocked it down, so I gotta say a shout out to Jabari.”

There are many interesting options in the modern NBA that could be ideal QBs in the NFL, but in any of these lists, LeBron James will most likely be at the top. Because of his passing skills, and his in-game IQ, which is unmatchable in the modern NBA.

Russell Westbrook (6’3″ ) could make a great QB for his athleticism and energy. Chris Paul (6’0″) can be a great and intelligent Pro Football player, along with Dwight Howard.
