The NBA’s first In-Season Tournament reached its climax on the final night of group play; with 16 teams vying against each other. However, only a select few teams harbored hopes of advancing. The Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings were two of those teams. In their head-to-head clash, victory alone wasn’t the sole objective; both teams had to defy the unfavorable tournament odds stacked against them.

Gary Payton II goes down to injury

Gary Payton returned against the San Antonio Spurs after sitting out three games with a left foot sprain. However, the joy in his comeback was short-lived, as he was sidelined during the game against the Kings.

With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, GP3 was visibly limping and hopping on the court. Notably, there was no apparent contact during his recent plays. After the game stopped, he was assisted back to the locker room.

Later, Payton was officially ruled out of the game. The issue cited for his rest is his right calf. However, anything substantial can be confirmed only after proper medical checkups. Till then, the event casts a shadow over his overall return to action.
