Draymond Green finally made his much-awaited return after serving a suspension against the Memphis Grizzlies. On December 12, the Warriors’ defensive linchpin was handed an indefinite suspension by the league after hitting the Suns‘ Jusuf Nurkic in the face. Following an extensive counseling program to mend his ways, the league reinstated him on 6th January.

However, before stepping foot on the court and turning the page to a new chapter, Green conducted a live stream, candidly addressing his experiences during the suspension, lessons learned from his mistakes, plans for personal growth, and offering apologies to those he had wronged. While the podcast episode showcased his sincere side, the hosts of the Club 520 podcast found it to be “ridiculous.”

While criticizing Draymond Green for his perceived “ridiculous” actions, one of the hosts boldly suggested that he should savor the moment because “You [Draymond Green] and Klay will not be here next year.”

This speculation arose in response to recent reports by Shams Charania, who stated on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, “The mindset in Golden State right now is everyone but Steph Curry is on the table.” Since the Golden State Warriors have hit a cold spell after a strong 5-1 start to the season, the Warriors will be weighing in all their options as the trade deadline draws near.

Except for Stephen Curry, their core has been just a shell of their championship form, with Klay Thompson struggling to find consistency, and Draymond Green’s repeated ejections and suspensions taking a toll on the team. However, the recent plunge in Curry’s performance has triggered alarm bells for the Warriors.

Curry has been the most productive on the floor when paired with Chris Paul (+58) and Gary Payton II (+51). However, with Paul (hand) and Payton II (left hamstring strain) unavailable, the 4x NBA Champion seems to have hit a slump too. Over the last ten games, Curry has seen a dip in his numbers, averaging 22.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.1 rebounds, compared to his stellar performance of 30.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the first ten games of the season. Given the recent decline in the Baby-Faced Assassin‘s output, there’s a growing sense of urgency for the Warriors’ front office to consider making a strategic move.

Relying excessively on a Big Three for extended periods of championship contention has never fared well. It’s a narrative that has played out too often. Take the Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh for example. It took them just four years to go from being the NBA’s dominant force to somewhat diminishing.
