And recently on ESPN, Curry made a guest appearance and spoke about the Howard Golf program. Curry has even made big donations to resurrect the Howard golf team. The golf program coach praised Curry and expressed his gratitude toward the 4x champ.

Curry’s investment in the Howard University golf team

Curry’s golf prowess mirrors his on-court finesse. He frequently participates in celebrity golf tournaments during NBA offseasons. However, his connection to the sport extends beyond personal enjoyment. His philanthropic spirit unexpectedly intersects with his love for golf in a transformative way.

In 2019, Curry was inspired by Howard University student Otis’ story about the university’s dormant golf program. After a conversation, Curry formed a partnership with Otis to revive Howard University’s golf program. This was not just a charitable gesture, but a commitment.

Curry contributed more than $1 million, which laid the groundwork for the program’s comeback. His commitment and effort proved that his generosity matched his skill as a basketball player, giving his remarks actual weight. This collaboration signalled a dramatic change in the HBCU athletics scene. In addition to providing financial support, Curry’s efforts energized the administration of the institution in creating a strong team with a common goal, bringing Howard’s golf program back to life.

Recently, Curry was a guest on ESPN talking about his golf endeavours. Even the Howard golf program coach Sam Puryear made an appearance and answered a few questions. When he was asked about Curry’s in the program, he said, “Having Stephen involved is huge. Without Stephen, we have no program. Most importantly, I think what it’s done is give a lot of young people confidence.

He continues, “I mean right now, they see the best basketball player working that hard and doing so many things for so many different people. They realize that they have to put in the same amount of effort if not more to reach even half of their goals.” 

Curry’s philanthropic endeavours

Steph Curry, a renowned NBA player, has been actively involved in charity, starting his Eat.Learn.Play Foundation with his wife Ayesha. The foundation provides children with basic needs such as food, water, and education. Curry and his wife worked with Lineage Logistics during the pandemic to help those in need.

In 2012, Curry visited Tanzania to deliver anti-malaria nets and conducted a program called Nothing But Nets. He also donated $118,000. And in 2015, Curry visited the White House and delivered a speech to dignitaries as part of President Barack Obama’s Malaria Initiative strategy.

In 2015, Curry wore sneakers bearing the name “Deah Shaddy Barakat,” a victim of the 2015 Chapel Hill shooting. He donated his prize vehicle, a 2016 Kia Sorento, to the East Oakland Youth Development Center. In 2018, Curry jokingly questioned whether the Apollo program’s Moon landing took place. This led to a partnership with Under Armour to create signature shoes inspired by the comment. The shoes sold for $58,100 after 113 bids, with the money donated to STEM education initiatives.
