In NBA, survival on the court is hard, and it needs next-level training. Therefore, being a child of an NBA athlete can be a tough task. You may have to grind it out at an early age. The athlete who is a parent can go to enormous lengths to instill discipline and physical work. It is a two-edged sword. It does help in retaining some important life skills in the long run, but it can also create pressure in early life.
In one such instance, Dwight Howard went to huge lengths to train his son, which led to a huge debate.

Dwight Howard finds some defense admit knifing criticism
In a video viewed by millions, fans see Dwight Howard training his son on a bike. The jaded child cries and keeps repeating, “I can’t, I can’t” but that doesn’t deter the former Magic great. He keeps rubbing his son’s chest and yells, “You can come on”. Then he tells the worn-out boy, “I want you to do it until I tell you to stop”.
The child replies in disbelief, “What!” and continues wailing. The former Lakers continue to push him on and says, “Let’s go” as the video ends.
His actions received huge backlash on social media with people calling him going as far as calling him “deadbeat dad“. However, there were some heavy defenses too. One of the biggest defenses came from former NBA Center Kendrick Perkins, who is currently an analyst. He didn’t see anything wrong with Superman’s actions and considered this as him “pushing his son”. A former NBA player has seen the iron-will that it takes to train at a high level.

Considering that he’s still ripped and looks younger than his age, Dwight Howard has certainly put in work for the last couple of decades. His resume speaks for itself. Having been one of the best players of the era, he has worked through a lot of pain and suffering. Therefore, it is not a surprise when he trains his young kid in such a manner. This approach is reflective of the work that an NBA player has to put in for touching the stars.
Rooting for their sons
Dads pushing their sons at a high level isn’t anything new. The most limelight-grabbing one is LeBron James pushing his sons Bryce and Bronny. In one of the viral instances, Dwyane Wade was trash-talking his own child Zaire during a 1v1. However, Dwight’s case looks different.

Historically, he hasn’t had a reputation as a solid father like LeBron. He has had many children from different women, so he doesn’t have much stripes in this regard. Apart from that, his current actions were blasted by his ex, Royce Reed called him “evil”.
