Dragon Ball Z, an anime that resonates with millions around the world, is a fan-favorite pop culture reference. Even in the NBA, there are fans of Japanese anime. Rudy Gobert, Karl Anthony-Towns, and many other stars around the league are fans of the show. It seems like 30-year-old New York Knicks star Evan Fournier is also a huge fan of the show. Recently, he made some very explosive comments against the Knicks.

Interestingly, he also once posted a popular image of Goku, the show’s protagonist, on Twitter, which holds a special place in Fournier’s life.

What does the Goku image shared by Fournier mean?

On the 29th of June, Evan Fournier shared an iconic image of Goku while he was on the fictional other-wordly planet, Namek. Dragon Ball Z was released in 1986 and is still quite popular.

Interestingly, the image shared by Fournier is one of the most iconic images from the show. It is a still from when Goku regenerated himself while on the planet.

Despite being a good role player, Fournier found himself out of the Knicks’ plans during the 2022-23 playoffs. The New York Knicks crashed out in the first round, and they could’ve certainly used the Frenchman’s help.

Explaining the ugly situation he was in, Fournier made a Dragon Ball Z reference. “Do you know Dragon Ball Z? When the hero Goku finds himself on planet Namek, injured, in a regeneration capsule? I had this image in my head all year, every practice”, said the French international.

Fournier had some major claims against the New York Knicks recently

Evan Fournier played in 27 games for the Knicks last season. The guard held the bench after the first seven games, moving out of rotation during November. He barely saw the court for the remaining season. But He played during the last four games before the post-season. This is when the 30-year-old realized he was out of Knicks’ plans. 

He confessed to working a lot like it was the offseason. However, the realization changed his way of going about his business.

“I need to find my rhythm playing one-on-one, [then against the] opposition. When I realized that I was no longer going to play, I radically changed my way of working”, revealed Fournier according to basketnews.

Fournier also revealed that he does not share a good relationship with the Knicks’ head coach. He still has a year left on his contract and is set to earn $18.8 million. However, leaving seems to be the best option for him currently.
