Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard has been creating waves in the NBA world in the last few months. The 33-year-old star publicly hinted at his to trade from the Blazers franchise this offseason. On the other hand, the star couldn’t attract a single his way. Meanwhile, he opened up to the media after a long break and narrated a wholesome story from his struggling days before getting an NBA contract.

In his eleven-season-long NBA career, he played only for the Blazers with a steady scoring average of 25.2 points. Despite his consistent performance, the star couldn’t win a single ring. He also expressed that he would take a drastic class, if the management doesn’t make notable change to the roster. Even though the team roped in rookie Scoot Henderson from the NBA draft, the star seemed not to budge. While fans wanted to hear from their star badly, he recently featured on a podcast, discussing various aspects of his career.

Damian Lillard opens up about his struggling times

After months of media hiatus, Damian Lillard recently featured on several podcasts and interviews. Of course, the hosts addressed the elephant in the room, asking him about the trade saga. He said, “It’s a way that you have to go about. You can’t be an idiot, you know,” reflecting that he is still on for a fight, reported Basketball Network. However, the latest episode of Come And Talk 2 Me, the hosts touched upon other aspects of his career.

The host asked Dame, why he chose Weber State University after high school. He replied, stating that he was under-recruited. The Blazers star further went on to narrate what mattered the most before his NBA contract. He said, “Growing up I played for the local program I didn’t play for like a big AAU program… we was selling candy raffle tickets.” 

The $215 million rich baller also credited the local programs for improving his game because of the people involved in it. He added, “I grew up with the coaches that used to give me rides and sh*t home from practice and feed me.” Later he said, playing under these small programs only fetched him smaller colleges.

Even though Dame expressed his wish to get a trade out of Portland, he also explained about ‘a perfect world’ in the city. 

What is Lillard’s ‘Perfect world’?

It’s a well known affair that Lillard preferred the Miami Heat as his next destination. Even though there were several speculations about the talks between the two sides, the star remained silent. However, he opened up about his love for the city of Portland in the same podcast. He added, “In a perfect world, I could spend my entire career in Portland.” He later spoke about the fans and their love for the team’s basketball.
