If anything, it is Stephen A. Smith’s passion for the game of basketball that makes him stand out from the rest. He is one of the most influential and recognizable voices in sports commentary. Known for his often polarising opinions, one can’t deny his exuberant enthusiasm for the game. This time, he is back with a fresh take.

The Lakers started their season on a rough note with a 119-107 loss to the Denver Nuggets. However, they had their redemption with a 100-95 win against the Phoenix Suns today. The star of the show was undoubtedly Anthony Davis, who dominated the court. The center has made such a huge impression on Stephen A. Smith who is now begging for him to pull up with the same energy in every game so that he can go to LA for the Finals in June of next year.

Well, Stephen A. is going to great lengths in order to get his message across to the Lakers’ center. “I’m not gonna apologize for begging. I don’t want to be in Denver in the finals. I wanna be in LA. I’m going to beg AD to bring his A-game as much as I possibly can,” he says on ESPN’s First Take.

In fact, he’ll have you know that this is not the first time he has begged an NBA player for something. Stephen A. digs up the past and recalls the time he begged Damian Lillard to change his mind about staying in the Blazers and going to the Knicks. In his own words, “It didn’t work, damn it. But it didn’t stop me from begging.

He takes it up a notch this time and gets on his knees in front of the camera to beg Davis to bring his A-game, “Anthony Davis. Please, please, can you bring your A-game please? I don’t wanna be in Denver in June, I wanna be in LA“.

Is Stephen A. actually rooting for the Lakers or does he just want to go to LA? That’s up for debate, but he is not messing around when he says that when AD arrives with his A-game, he is one of the top 7 players on the planet. His game against the Phoenix stands as a testimony to this.

Apart from this, AD also proved to be a defensive force against the Suns, as well as creating ample opportunity for the team to score. He especially charged ahead in the third quarter and carried the team to victory. If he keeps pulling up with the same energy, he might just as well make Stephen A.’s dream a reality.
