The NBA superstar Stephen Curry had been living in an underdog story during his initial stages of a basketball career. Despite not meeting the required physique for ‘basketball standards’, he went to become a superstar. However, Curry had also his own share of failures in his initial days. One such failure in a game against Michael Jordan‘s alma mater fetched him a nasty criticism from his well-wisher.
Steph picked Duke University as his top priority to take his basketball career, but the campus didn’t pick him. Curry’s lean physique and height didn’t match many colleges’ standard. However, Davidson, a private arts college in North Carolina, believed in Curry’s ability. Rest is history.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has been making sound waves in the NBA world in this off season. Especially after the release of his documentary Stephen Curry: Underrated. The documentary has opened doors for many untold stories from the 4x NBA Champion’s college days. Until Steph’s entry into Davidson’s basketball roster, the team hasn’t won a single game in the March Madness for decades. However, before achieving that, he had to go through rough berating from his college coach, Bob McKillop, after losing against The University of North Carolina.
During Steph’s sophomore year, the Davidson took on the UNC and lost by just one point on a 66-65 game. Notably, Curry missed a buzzer-beater three-pointer from the deep, which would have eventually got them home. After the game, coach McKillop sat down with the entire team and called out the flaws in each and every player. The coach felt that the team was capable of winning the game. Subsequently, he berated Steph as well, and pointed out his mistakes. In the words of Steph’s teammate Steve Rossiter in the documentary, “He tears off Steph for couple of minutes, how Steph wasn’t living up to his responsibilities and how he wasn’t getting it done.”
