The NBA All-Star Game, an annual showcase of the league’s best players, is about to undergo a major transformation. In a live interview on ESPN, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated that substantial changes are on the way. However, while that decision is not yet final, he strongly hinted at a return to the original structure of the East vs. West format for the All-Star Game.

This prospective adjustment breaks away from the prior practice of top vote-getters serving as captains and drafting their own teams. The fans were, however, quick to show how they felt about this decision of the NBA commissioner on social media.

Adam Silver indicates a new change in the NBA All-Star game

The first 66 NBA All-Star Games used an East vs. West format, featuring the best players from each conference against one other. The previous six years, however, have seen a different system. The top vote-getters serve as captains and pick their teammates. LeBron James was a captain in all six of those All-Star occurrences. With Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry joining him in different years.

However, in recent years, the NBA has implemented a target score idea in the fourth quarter of the All-Star Game to increase competition. This new regulation assures that the game ends with a made basket, thereby making fourth quarters untimed. The winning team is the first to equal the top team’s score after three quarters, plus 24 points to honor Kobe Bryant’s jersey number.

The target score system originally added excitement and drama to the All-great Game. However, due to injuries to numerous great players, last season’s edition was less competitive. Television ratings were clearly declining, prompting calls for a return to a more competitive climate. The precise timing for completing these prospective All-Star Game adjustments is unknown. Nonetheless, Silver’s remarks have surely sparked debate and excitement among the fans. And many fans have however even voiced their opinions on social media.
