The Golden State Warriors are fighting for dear life to stay in the playoff race. They are currently seeded 10th in the stacked Western Conference with a 38-34 record. However, Stephen Curry and Co. might get surpassed by the young Houston Rockets squad, who are only one win away from catching them. With the Warriors barely holding on to their play-in spot, there is a good chance of their season ending in April. Amid various uncertainties, veteran analyst Chris Broussard asked, “Where are the Warriors going?”
During the Odd Couple Podcast, Broussard claimed the Warriors might need to let go of veteran stars Chris Paul and Klay Thompson to save Stephen Curry’s legacy. The competition in the Western Conference is only going to get tougher next season as several young teams, including the Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, and San Antonio Spurs, are on the rise. Broussard suggested the Warriors release Chris Paul and get rid of his $30 million contract to get some cap space for this off-season. He also claimed the Warriors should bring Klay Thompson back on a low number or part ways with him if they need to.

Klay Thompson is in the final year of his $189.9 million contract, and the Warriors will probably not give him another high-value contract based on his declining form. The Warriors need to act quickly if they wish to capitalize while Steph is still playing at a high level. Steph is 36 years old and might not sustain his greatness for long. So, the Warriors’ front office must make tough decisions this summer to contend for another title before Steph retires.
Can Stephen Curry win another championship in Golden State?
Although fans would love to see Stephen Curry win his 5th Championship before he retires, it seems unlikely with the current state of the Warriors. They have some talented young players, including Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis. But Steph will need more support to contend for another title. They will probably have to face even tougher competition next season. Houston has shown great potential this year and will probably return much stronger next season.

The Memphis Grizzlies will also be better once their superstar Ja Morant returns from injury. The Spurs will build on the progress of Victor Wembanyama and improve next season. Apart from the improving young teams, Golden State’s old competition is also not going anywhere. Superstars like Nikola Jokić and LeBron James will continue to dominate and pose a threat to Stephen Curry and Co. That will make it extremely hard for Steph to win another ring with the Warriors. What are your thoughts on the Warriors getting rid of Klay and CP3 to save Steph’s legacy?
