Victor Wembanyama has been doing everything he could to take home the ROTY award. The San Antonio Spurs rookie has truly lived up to the hype that he brought into the season. Following a dominant performance against his rival, Chet Holmgren’s team, he surprised the Indiana Pacers tonight with his assertion. The 20-year-old not only helped his side win the game but also hoisted a historical record as a star rookie.
Tonight, he recorded 31 points with 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 blocks, and a steal to shut down Tyrese Haliburton & the Indiana Pacers. He became the first player since 1992 to produce 100 points with 10 blocks in the first five career games. The last time someone produced a similar record, it was Shaq.
Following that, he then joined a three-member elite group alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant. He became the third teenager to record 35+ PTS, 10+ REB, and 2+ BLK after KD and Bron.
Since blocks were tracked in 1973-74, only 3 teenagers have recorded 35+ PTS, 10+ REB, and 2+ BLK in a game.
