Klay Thompson is part of the core team of the Warriors. However, in a surprising move, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr benched key players Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney late in a recent game against the Phoenix Suns. The decision to replace three players with less than four minutes remaining aroused eyebrows, especially as Chris Paul, Dario Šarić, Brandin Podziemski, and Jonathan Kuminga took their places.

Due to that, Thompson was seen quarreling with his teammates. The Athletic writer Anthony Slater spoke about Thompson’s outburst on the Bay Area’s sports station and did not spare any details.

The Bay Area’s sports station 95.7 spoke about Thompsons’ outburst on their radio show. They said, “When it is bad for Klay its bad and last night was as bad as it gets.” To that, Slater replied, “The big move was made last night for the first time ever. A healthy Klay Thompson was benched at crunch time that never happened. So now the seal is broken like now Steve Kerr has made it possible that he can bench Klay Thompson at crunch time which he didn’t know how he was gonna handle it. He was not pleased last night and the channel broadcast did not focus on him so you did not see his reaction last night”

Further, he spoke about the outburst of Thompson, and how Curry had to diffuse it. He said, “Steph, at one point, kinda had to pull Klay away. He was yelling towards the bench. It didn’t seem like it was anybody in particular he was yelling at… He was making his opinions felt. Then he walked over and hit something on the bench.”

The action to bench the 5x All-Star occurred in retaliation for Draymond Green‘s dismissal in the third quarter after an incident with Suns center Jusuf Nurkic. Coach Kerr chose a different lineup to complete the game with Green out, leaving just Steph Curry from the Warriors’ nucleus on the field. Thompson was unable to find his rhythm in the game and struggled with a 2-10 shooting performance, including 4-15 from beyond the arc.
