Making it to the NBA is one of the hardest jobs. With thousands lined up for some 500-odd positions in the league, the success rate isn’t high. Making it to the G-League, which is the developmental wing, is no small feat too. To make the league, a player has to make countless sacrifices. For a five-star recruit in high school, the journey can be trickier due to the burden of expectations. But there are many instances where they elevate their game in such a way that there is no denying them.
One such example is Anthony Edwards, who stood by his high-caliber status. His charm was so strong in college that he inspired Tyrese Maxey to declare for the draft.

Playing for Georgia, Edwards entered the NCAA program as a five-star recruit. He more than lived up to the billing and averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. He also entered the NBA as the number one draft pick and suffice it to say that he has once again fulfilled the expectations.
Tyrese Maxey also entered the college ranks as a five-star recruit, but wasn’t sure he would declare for the NBA Draft.
After receiving many lucrative offers, he decided to join the Kentucky Wildcats. An unsure Maxey kept performing at a high keel and then it hit him that he would announce his NBA draft eligibility. This happened after a game against Edwards’ George. Talking to JJ Redick and host Tommy Alter on the Old Man and the Three podcast, Maxey revealed when he decided to declare for the 2020 draft. Redick asked him, “Did you actually take any classes in Kentucky?”

To this, the Guard replied, ”Up till January, I went to every single class. We played against Anthony Edwards in Georgia. I had 19 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. The next day was Wednesday, I was like I’m not going to class, I’m going to the league next year.”

Amidst this revelation, will he be the answer if James Harden departs soon?
Tyrese Maxey can have a major duty next season
While videos of Maxey and Harden practicing together have emerged, is there any awkwardness between the two? The Beard doesn’t want to be a part of the 76ers but is avoiding fines after a $ 100k hit for skipping media day. However, this can emerge as an opportunity for Maxey to elevate further. Last season, he averaged over 20 in just his third season in the league. He also shot an impressive 43.4% from deep. This form translated to the Postseason as well.
