The Los Angeles Clippers are in the midst of a two-week victory drought. Their recent addition of James Harden has not yet provided the anticipated boost. Despite Harden’s presence in four of the last five games, the Clippers are in a disappointing slump, losing all matchups and experiencing their longest winless stretch since 2017. With a current record of 3-6, they now reside in the lower echelons of their conference.
Despite the abundance of superstar talent on the roster, the Clippers are grappling with a struggle to define roles and establish a cohesive rhythm. The team’s challenges extend beyond specific on-court aspects like momentum, defensive stops, rebounding, or fast breaks. However, at its core, they are facing difficulties in the most fundamental aspect of determining an optimal lineup.

With the Clippers’ big four not meeting expectations or even the game plan, it is natural to assume that frustrations might be building in the building. However, Ty Lue made an unexpected turn before the Clippers’ clash against the Denver Nuggets. Instead of dwelling on the team’s struggles, Lue exuded confidence and optimism about the future. In response to questions about his newfound positivity, Lue explained, “Because you don’t acquire James Harden. He hasn’t played five-on-five since May. So, once he gets in a better shape and better game shape, the game slows down for him. We’re going to be good. I really do believe that and I do believe the guys we have in the locker room are good enough to win. That’s why I feel that way.”
Ty Lue tonight:
“We lost five games in a row but it?s the only time I?ve really felt confident losing five games in a row that we have a good team and that we?re going to come out of this. I feel good about our team.”

Ty Lue raises a valid point. However, there is uncertainty surrounding James Harden’s adaptation. Regardless, the Clippers have time. Fortunately, Harden joined LA early on, enabling the franchise ample time to experiment and establish clear roles and responsibilities for their stellar lineup.

In a bold move, Ty Lue has completely ousted a player from the lineup. Despite starting games earlier in the season, Bones Hyland now finds himself on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. Before the trade, Bones boasted impressive stats, averaging 16 points and 2 rebounds on nearly a 50% shooting clip. However, the quest for synergy among the stars has prompted Lue to experiment with strategic changes in the lineup.
