The Minnesota Timberwolves have come out as the most dominant teams in the West, or even in the entire league. Until the Boston Celtics‘ latest victory against the Cavs, the Wolves were leading the league. Even the defending champions Denver Nuggets couldn’t keep up with their force. Especially, 22-year-old Anthony Edwards has come up the ranks after his successful stint in the FIBA WC. Impressed by their gameplay style on the court, Detroit Pistons‘ legend Isiah Thomas picked them to win the West.

The Western Conference has been a total surprise package this season. The Wolves, Dallas Mavericks, and the Oklahoma City Thunder which barely made it to the playoffs last season, have hijacked the top four spots on the ladder. Meanwhile, the dominant Nuggets looked off-color in the absence of their star player, Jamal Murray. Let’s find out why Isiah Thomas picked the Minnesota side among the other three.

The Mavericks have shown promising signs with their leader Luka Doncic‘s MVP-level consistent performance and support from Kyrie Irving. Particularly, Luka Magic has been looking locked in ever since he embraced fatherhood. Despite these upsides, the Bad Boy Pistons legend chose the Wolves as the favorites to win the West in a recent show.

Isiah Thomas led his team and franchise to win their first and back-to-back rings in 1989 and 1990. They were known for their aggressive gameplay and for dominating their opponents near the paint. Moreover, the team had a separate rivalry with the Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan.

It’s so evident why the Pistons legend picked the Wolves as his favorite, as they play a similar brand of basketball to the 1980s Pistons. Thomas also backed his claim with reasons. He said, “Minnesota has all the pieces…They have size, they have intelligence, they play well together and then they are tough.”

Thomas further went on to differentiate the Wolves’ gameplay from other teams and also added a few words about the Ant-Man.

Ever since his FIBA WC success as a scorer, the NBA world compared him with Michael Jordan, and he denied the comparison. Let’s find out what the Pistons legend has to say.

Isiah Thomas on Edwards’ presence on the team

It’s a popular opinion that Anthony Edwards‘ place in the Wolves team is a strong factor for them to win the ring. However, the legend revealed how the Wolves can still win games without the Ant-Man.

After picking the Wolves as the favorites for the West, he also said, “Minnesota and their coaching staff right now, they are saying, how can we win the game, Edwards gets 9 points the other night against the Dallas but they are just bigger than everybody, so they just out-powered and outperformed.”

Despite Edwards’ poor shooting game against the Mavs, they went on to win by a 101-119 margin.
