Phoenix Suns star and 2x NBA Champ Kevin Durant is one of the most dominating basketball players. Despite his impressive record, Durant was reportedly a target for quite some time for critics over his “skinny” frame. While Durant’s 240 lbs is around the average weight of an NBA player, the criticism was reportedly directed toward the fact that not much of it accounted for muscle mass. The official X account of Celtics on NBC Sports Boston recently uploaded a clip on their feed. It featured 5x NBA All-Star Al Horford engaging in a Q&A session with a media member. During the same, the player discussed a few memories of Kevin Durant before the 2007 NBA draft. Horford recalled spending about a week working out with Durant before the latter was drafted into the Seattle Supersonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder). Horford recalled being left in awe and amazement over the energy and determination possessed by his training partner.
“Man, this guy is this tall and shooting like that and moving in this way…just so talented” Horford recalled thinking 14 years ago. While the player was generous in sending his praise to Durant, he also didn’t hesitate in jokingly making a sly dig at the player’s 240lbs listed weight.

Both Horford and Durant entered the NBA through the 2007 draft. The latter weighed even less back then, with his official weight being reportedly listed as 215 lbs during his rookie season. Having spent quality time with the future Suns power forward before the draft, Horford would be more than qualified to truthfully inform fans about what occurred during their workouts. He was also very impressed with KD’s gameplay, and his decision to join Boston after Atlanta was influenced by Durant. Notably, another one of Durant’s workout partners once made a comment about his training methods in the gym.

Andre Iguodala once called out Kevin Durant for “not lifting weights”
Kevin Durant’s supposed “skinny” was not much of a concern for NBA fans. It was something, however, that used to cross the minds of his former teammates. Amongst them was four-time NBA champion Andre Iguodala, who served as Durant’s teammate for 3 years.
During an interview in December 2023, Iguodala brought up the subject of his former teammate. Similarly to Al Horford, he praised Durant for his on-court skills and workout abilities. However, he also didn’t hesitate to bring out the player’s one flaw “that has nothing to do with basketball”.

“KD’s only flaw is that he won’t lift weights” said Iguodala during the interview. The former player stated that watching Durant work out would be “the most beautiful 30 minutes” anyone will ever see. However, he still wanted his former teammate to work on those biceps.
