Since Stephen Curry called himself the “Greatest Point Guard Ever” over Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, the NBA world has been debating whether the Golden State Warriors legend is correct. The topic even caught the attention of the 6-Time NBA Champion Michael Jordan, who put an end to the argument by sending a detailed text message to ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith. In the text, MJ picked Magic as the GOAT PG, explaining in detail why the Lakers Legend resides above any other Point Guard in NBA history.

Ironically, “23” days after MJ silenced the debate, NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins revealed his Top 5 Point Guard list, adding a new name in the GOAT PG debate.

Big Perk brought the best point guard discussion back to the table by releasing his list of the Top 5 PGs in NBA history. While most of the names on the list were expected, there was a name in the 5th spot that caught everyone’s attention. Perkins gave Mr. Triple Double Russell Westbrook his flowers by including him in his Top 5. Russell Westbrook might not be the conventional Point Guard, but his numbers are as good as any other guard in NBA history. The 9-time All-Star is one of the best all-around guards in NBA history, averaging a triple-double in 4 separate seasons during his illustrious career.

Brodie won his maiden MVP award in 2017 when he averaged a 30-point triple-double for the entire season. What made his achievement even more special was the fact that prior to Westbrook’s feat, nobody had averaged a triple-double over a season since Oscar Robertson in 1961-1962. Not many people would put Russ in their Top 5 Point Guards list because he has never won a championship. But apart from that, he has a strong case for being in the Top 5. Russ was a beast in his prime and dominated the league with his freakish athleticism and incredible playmaking skills. Perkins put only John Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, and Stephen Curry over the Former MVP.

Big Perk’s list has re-opened the Best PG debate

Kendrick Perkins put Chef Curry No.1 over the 5-time Champion Magic Johnson. It could be recency bias because not many people remember how dominant Magic was during his days as a Laker. The Baby-Faced Assassin took the NBA by storm after revolutionizing the game of basketball and making the Warriors one of the Greatest Dynasties. But Magic did the same thing during the Showtime Lakers era.
