In the 2021–22 season, they finished with a 52–30 record, securing the fourth seed in the Western Conference and winning their first playoff series since 2011. In the 2022-23 season, despite a strong start and significant star player additions, the team couldn't maintain its performance and failed to make the playoffs.</span>

Six weeks before acquiring the Dallas Mavericks, Cuban attended one of its games. During his presence, he was captivated by the team's potential.
