The Atlanta Hawks’ season is not going how they would have wanted it to. Despite having two superstars in Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, the Hawks are stuck at the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are currently 7 games below .500 with a 29-36 record. Atlanta’s disappointing performance has even led to rumors about the potential trading of Trae Young this summer.
Adding fire to the rumors, Trae dropped a cryptic message on his Instagram story to his 5 million fans. The 3-time All-Star shared a video of former NFL star Channing Crowder talking about the mental well-being of people who always look happy. “The happiest dude in the room, ask him how he’s doing… they also have insecurities.” Crowder says in the video.

The cryptic video might hint at Trae Young being dissatisfied with his current situation in Atlanta.
Trae has not had much success in the playoffs despite being one of the best guards in the league. The Hawks have not gone past the first round in the last two seasons under his leadership. It is possible that Atlanta might be looking to trade Young this summer to start a rebuild. Trae was constantly in the trade rumors during last month’s mid-season trade window. Many teams, including the Lakers and the Spurs, were interested in acquiring the 3-time All-Star.
The Spurs reportedly attempted to acquire Trae last month to pair him alongside Victor Wembanyama. Unfortunately, the deal was never made official. Trae is in the 2nd year of his 5-year $215.2 million contract. If the Hawks choose to trade Trae this summer, San Antonio and LA could be two possible destinations for the 25-year-old guard.

Trae Young stats in 2023-24 season before injury
Another major reason for Trae Young’s cryptic message could be his dissatisfaction due to a recent injury. Trae has not suited up for the Hawks since February 23, after he suffered a torn ligament in his finger during the Raptors game. He underwent surgery soon after and was ruled out of action for at least 4 weeks. It is still uncertain when Trae will return to the lineup. Trae was having a great season until he got injured.

He was averaging 26.4 points and 10.8 assists before the injury. With Young out of the lineup, the Hawks have very little chance of making it to the playoffs this season. That will definitely affect the Hawks’ decision to either keep or trade Trae Young this summer.
