According to Ayesha Curry, the issue of literacy among children is a critical concern. She highlights the significance of reading skills at grade level by third grade. As per her, students who struggle with reading at this stage are more likely to face difficulties later on. She explicitly says, “If kids aren’t reading at their reading level, they’re kind of set up to fail. That?s just not fair.?
Ayesha even refers to research, reflecting on those who are not proficient readers by the third grade are 4x more likely to leave high school than those who are. She further emphasizes how critical it is to address this problem. Only addressing the problem can help guarantee every child receives an education that is fair and equitable.
