For 28-year-old NBA star Devonte’ Graham, the experience of meeting him was an unforgettable moment as he describes. He was drafted in the second rebound by the Hawks, however; he was later traded to Jordan?s Hornets.?
In a recent podcast with Theo Pinson, Graham shared his encounter with the icon, leaving him at a loss for words.?
A Chance Encounter with Greatness

Graham was walking into the arena, and the excitement was palpable, playing for the biggest league of basketball. He recalls Jordan walking sideways, ?he’s like walking around the corners. We kind of like, damn, we are bumping into each other. And I’m like, Oh my bad. But I look up and I’m like, oh shit, Michael Jordan, he like, ?Devonte what’s up??.?
Overwhelmed by the moment, he recalls how his initial reaction was to apologize for nearly bumping into Jordan. But after Jordan bumped and recognized him, Graham knew something extraordinary had just happened.
“That’s Really My Homie”
Graham couldn’t contain his excitement after encountering one of his childhood heroes. He immediately reached out to share the news with everyone he knew. He described it as if meeting Michael Jordan wasn’t enough; it amazed him even more that MJ knew who he was on a first-name basis.
He says, ?I hate everybody on my phone. Hey bro, I just met MJ. And he knew who I was. My first name basis, yeah, that’s to say that’s really my homie right now.”
Not just this, when Jordan went ahead and signed Devonte’ Graham to be part of his Jordan brand left him flattered. This gesture solidified their connection beyond just being fans or colleagues, but like close friends or homies.
