The Golden State Warriors “Big Three” are running it back. After opting out of his contract, Draymond Green became a free agent this summer. However, he soon signed a whopping $100M deal to return to Dub Nation. During the time he opted out, several teams were said to be eying to sign the 11-year veteran. One of the teams that was reportedly interested in signing him was the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers legend LeBron James and Draymond Green have had a long-running friendship. Green has often stated how he is in awe of The Kid From Akron. However, when the opportunity to play with the all-time leading scorer in the NBA presented itself, Green chose to stay with his peers at Golden State. The Warriors star guard, Stephen Curry opened up about the rumors surrounding the 33-year-old in a recent interview.

Draymond Green shocked the world when he decided not to opt into his contract with the Warriors. Several fans believed he just opted out to lure a more significant deal from the front office. However, some believed Green was on the move.

Draymond Green has had an incredible resume as a player for the Warriors. In 11 years in the NBA, he boasts of 4 All-Star selections. He also won the Defensive Player of The Year award in 2017. His most significant achievement with the Warriors however, was forming the “Big Three” with Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry that led them to 4 championships. Given Green’s incredible resume, it was obvious that when he hit the free agency market, teams were excited to sign him. One such team was rumoured to be the Los Angeles Lakers.

The rumors about Green leaving the Dubs behind circulated quickly. Among the teams rumored to be looking to sign the 33 year old were the Sacramento Kings and interestingly, Los Angeles Lakers. Green has had a long running friendship with the Lakers forward, LeBron James. Often stating James as his favorite player, Green has shown love to James on several occasions. However, by signing his major contract, he put an end to any rumors of him teaming up with The King.

Despite resting rumors, fans still questioned Green’s intentions to opt out of his contract. His teammate Stephen Curry cleared the air in a recent interview, talking about Green’s loyalty with the franchise.

Stephen Curry clears the air

Stephen Curry has been very vocal about the Warriors moves this offseason. After one of the busiest offseasons in recent history for Golden State, the 9 time All Star has served as their advocate after every move. Similarly, in a recent interview with ESPN, Curry was asked about the Warriors re-signing Draymond Green after he opted out.

Curry was asked if he was worried Green would not return or was Green’s intention was just to “fake out” to get a more lucrative deal. He responded, “Throughout the whole process, there’s obviously updates and rumors….you don’t even wanna put yourself in the reality that you know, us not playing together.”

However, he went onto mention Green’s importance in the roster: “I’m glad he’s back, I’m glad that we can kinda keep the band together….obviously excited to go back to war with him.

With Draymond Green returning to the Warriors roster, there is a sense of excitement among fans. The “Big Three” remains intact in Golden State, now also adding the veteran leadership of Chris Paul. The Warriors core, along with the added help may potentially be a championship contender. However, it will be interesting to see if they can live up to the expectations set on them.
