Despite recording his best-ever individual season, Wade lost out to Bron in the race. More than a decade since then, he reminisced about that period of his playing time.

In a recent episode of Club Shay Shay?podcast, the 3-time NBA champion candidly shared his experience from that time. Upon being asked about whether he deserved to win, Dwyane promptly replied,?“Of course,”?showcasing his belief. Soon after that, he acknowledged James’ efforts, saying, “But I also understand why LeBron won it”.

In the 2008-09 season, the MVP talks became a two-horse race between the two icons, with LeBron snatching his title in the end. A key factor behind that was the teams’ performances as James’ Cleveland Cavalries topped the Eastern Conference. They won 66 regular season games compared to Wade’s Miami Heat winning 43.

So, despite showing faith in himself, the shooting guard justified the league’s decision to hand the 4-time champion his first MVP. Still, he believed that it was his personal best season, as he mentioned. “As an individual player, yeah, that was my MVP year”.?Later in the show, he also talked about how that phase impacted his career.

The 13-time All-Star highlighted how winning an MVP trophy would not have made much difference for him. Emphasizing, “No,”?he added,?“I would just be in a few more conversations”.?The former NBA star seemed to have been at peace with it later in his career. Alongside this, he also won the scoring title, edging past LeBron by 82 points and a better points per game average.
