French wonderkid Victor Wembanyama has taken the world by storm with his immense physical stature and skill set like no other. However, he isn’t the first big man to captivate the NBA audiences. A few years ago, a certain 6-foot-11 inches tall center from Kentucky was regarded as the next big thing. The player in question is none other than Karl-Anthony Towns, who is held in high regard by other NBA stars like Jimmy Butler.

Recently, a former teammate of Butler and KAT joined the Club 520 Podcast and talked about how the Timberwolves star was Wembanyama before Wembanyama.

Recently, 2021 NBA champion Jeff Teague joined the Club 520 Podcast. Having played with KAT during his time with the Timberwolves, Teague has watched him grow into an elite player very closely.

In fact, he believes the 27-year-old is the ‘coldest’ player he has ever seen! Moreover, it seems like even Jimmy Butler is of the same belief. The 2023 NBA finalist believes that KAT is the best player.

“KAT is one of the coldest dudes I ever seen play basketball. I was in disbelief, I was like this motherf****er is special, he can do everything. We had a real conversation once. Me, Jimmy and Jimmy like, ‘he is the best player. We gonna let him do his thing'”, said Jeff Teague.

Butler played only two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2017 to 2018. During this time, he played 69 games with Karl-Anthony Towns averaging 22.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.

KAT’s best season is yet to come

Karl-Anthony Towns has 3 All-Star selections along with the 2016 Rookie of the Year award. However, he is yet to win a major accolade.

This season might turn his fortunes around. KAT averaged 20.8 points last season which happens to be his worst scoring season. He has a great team around him which might help him win his first-ever NBA title this season.

Anthony Edwards is looking better than ever, KAT is entering his prime years and Rudy Gobert has had one full season to settle with the team. With the NBA season starting soon, the Timberwolves fanbase and KAT have a lot to look forward to.
