The 7X NBA All-Star Damian Lillard might be a beast on the court, but the Bucks‘ point guard also has a side hustle as a rapper, a pretty successful one at that. Passionate about music, the sharpshooter goes by the stage name ‘Dame D.O.L.L.A.’ and is not alien to the music industry. Well, our beloved NBA star and rapper was in for a surprise when he found out that Tank was a backup vocalist in Aaliyah’s hit song ‘Come Over.’

For those who are not familiar, Tank is an American R&B singer who has managed to gain the respect of many, thanks to his mesmerizing vocal abilities. Aaliyah, on the other hand, was a legendary figure in the music industry who rose to fame at an early age. Her song ‘Come Over‘ was actually recorded in 2001, but was not released until 2022 in her album ‘I Care 4 U’, which was released posthumously after her death in 2001. To be fair to Dame, many were not aware that Tank sang the backups for Aaliyah’s ‘Come Over.’

The song was an instant hit, making it to the top 32 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Damian Lillard shared a video on his Instagram story where Tank takes us through the story of how he ended up as Aaliyah’s backup vocalist for the song. Tank was with his boys in a studio in New York; word got around that Aaliyah was recording right around the corner. They decided to give her a visit, and according to Tank, as soon as they walked in, she said, “Oh, Tank can do it“. And the rest is history.

Aaliyah had chosen him over Usher, who was already an established singer at that time. Tank, who still has a passion for singing backups says, “I didn’t get credit on there until late. I think people themselves just credited me.

Damian Lillard, just like many others, just found out that Tank contributed to ‘Come Over.’ Mind you, he did a pretty darn job at it too. So, Dame’s take on his mind-blowing discovery? He sums it up with five words in his Instagram story where he shared the video, “You learn something new everyday.”

Dame is shocked, but he is killing it on the court

We hear you, big man. Many were equally shocked because it wasn’t known at that time that Tank had actually contributed to the song. He admits that he had no songs out at that point in his life, and singing for Aaliyah was a huge thing for him.
