Draymond Green’s highly anticipated return from suspension turned into a nightmare really soon. The former DPOY returned to action after missing 16 consecutive games following his controversial suspension. However, his team faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of a shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies squad. The Grizzlies beat the Warriors 116-107 without multiple superstars, including Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Marcus Smart.

After the game, Draymond criticized the Warriors’ defense for being too weak. However, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr rubbished Draymond’s callout and revealed the real reason for their loss against the Grizzlies.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was a guest on a radio show on 95.7 The Game. He addressed Draymond Green’s comments about the Warriors’ weak defense, shutting the veteran’s argument down completely.

“After watching the tape, I was more concerned offensively than defensively because I think a lot of the mistakes we made on offense led to defensive issues,” Kerr said. Kerr claimed he agreed with Draymond when the game ended, but his opinion changed after watching the tape.

According to the Warriors head coach, his players were extremely competitive in defense and played hard. The Grizzlies players just made some tough shots.

Kerr’s comments come a day after Draymond called out the Warriors defense during the post-game interview. “Our closeouts were too soft, our rotations were too slow. So, it’s just no pride,” Green said. Draymond had a decent game against the Grizzlies, considering he had not played for over a month. He scored 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. But that did not help the Warriors win the game. The Warriors need more from Draymond Green to help them turn their season around.

Draymond Green might be the solution to his own problem

Draymond pointed out that the Warriors lost the last game because of their abysmal defense. However, a major reason their defense has been abysmal is that Draymond has been absent for the majority of the season. He has been the Warriors’ defensive anchor for over a decade. Draymond is a former Defensive Player of the Year and has the experience of guarding the best players in the league in the most pressure situations. Green needs to use his experience to guide the Warriors players on both ends of the floor.

As Steve Kerr also pointed out, the young Warriors players are not well averse to their playing style. Many new players do not understand how to operate with superstars like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The Warriors expect Draymond to take that responsibility and instill the knowledge of playing Championship basketball in the players’ minds. That will also solve the defensive problem he pointed out after the last game.
