While the NBA fandom cannot agree on most things, there is one topic where everyone has the same opinion. That, of course, is the debate for the greatest shooter ever. And, in turn, the greatest shooting duo ever. Even though some people might argue otherwise, those arguments are based on spite and have no credibility. This debate starts and ends with Stephen Curry and in turn the Golden State Warriors.

Is retirement looming for Stephen Curry and his?Brother?

For Klay Thompson, it’s been a long journey back. After being selected 11th overall, his inclusion into the Warriors’ core changed their entire trajectory. A relatively mediocre franchise became a sensation overnight, rattling off 4 championships in 7 years.

However, for Thompson, the enjoyment of the journey is vastly different now. In the beginning, it was about the destination, “…you’re young in your career you want to be great. You want to be an All-Star, you want All-NBA, you want all that.” However, after having achieved all the success, the perspective has changed for #11.

The 2021-22 season saw Klay play in an NBA game properly for the first time in almost 3 years. That time spent rehabbing various injuries gave him some new light on the things that matter. “In my 13th year… The injuries we both [Klay and Paul George] been through, I just take everything and I’m just so grateful for it all.”

For Klay, as he says on Podcast P with Paul George, the shift happened when he realized precisely how much time he has left. In a shocking admission, Thompson even alluded to his retirement. “We’re not actors, we can’t act till we’re 60, 70. So,?you got to just be as present with everything as you possibly can… I’m just enjoying this run man. I realize I only got four or five years left in me. I’m gonna enjoy it every single day.”

As the Warriors as we know them get set to traverse uncharted waters, the league should be terrified if this is their swansong.

One last hoorah?

For the first time since Steve Kerr took over, the team in San Francisco lost in the Western Conference, as they were handily beaten by the Los Angeles Lakers. As a result, a slew of moves in the offseason has changed the entire Warriors’ outlook.

Whether it was the departure of long-standing GM Bob Myers or the Jordan Poole-Chris Paul trade that broke Klay’s heart, the team is going through some big changes. Now, with the season a couple of months away, the core will look for one last run, for one last hoorah.
