The inaugural NBA in-season tournament is just a few games away from determining the final 4 teams in the competition.? Lakers and Indiana Pacers have clinched a spot in the knockout stages by going undefeated in the group stage. The other two spots are still up for grabs, and teams will fight hard to secure them. The Atlanta Hawks are also in the mix, and their superstar, Trae Young, will have to look on while Milwaukee and Miami?s next games determine their fate in the tournament.

Despite his in-season tournament future still hanging in the balance, Oklahoma Sooners alum Trae Young gave a shout-out to his college team for an incredible win in the NCAA tournament.

The Oklahoma Sooners kept their winning streak alive by defeating the USC Trojans in tonight?s game. With the game tied at 70-70 with less than 5 seconds remaining, Sooners guard Javian McCollum pulled up from mid-range to hit the game-winner. Although his jumper did not go in, Javian?s teammate Otega Oweh soared to the skies and grabbed the rebound over multiple USC defenders to hit the game-winning shot.

The Sooners won the game 72-70. The Oklahoma Sooners are now 6-0 to start the season and looking unstoppable. Sooners? alum Trae Young was hyped about his college team?s win and congratulated them on X, ?GREAT WIN!!! Top 25em?

 

Trae Young was a student at the University of Oklahoma and played for the Sooners during the 2017-18 season. He averaged a whopping 27.4 points and 8.7 assists in 32 games that year. While Trae is happy for his college team?s big win, his future in the NBA in-season tournament still hangs in the balance.

The Atlanta Hawks have won only one of their first three in-season tournament games. That has dropped them to the fourth spot in their group and caused a lot of uncertainty in their in-season tournament future. Trae Young and Co. are yet to play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the final game of the group stage. But their future in the in-season tournament will be determined by the Milwaukee Bucks and the Miami Heat tonight.

The Indiana Pacers have already qualified for the knockout stages from Atlanta?s group. And due to the wild card rules, the Hawks? future is dependent on the results from other groups? games.

If Jimmy Butler and Co. beat the New York Knicks, and Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. beat the Washington Wizards in tonight?s games, the Atlanta Hawks? in-season tournament journey will be over. In that scenario, the result of Atlanta vs. Cleveland will be inconsequential. Even though it is highly unlikely, Trae Young and Co. will be hoping to move on to the knockout stage of the tournament.
